Mediwell Health Tips

Protein is known as the body’s building block because it supports muscle growth, builds and repairs tissues, fights infection, and increases energy. Always choose low-fat meats and poultry, Other sources are eggs, beans, seeds, nuts, and soy. Plant-based proteins are lower in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in fiber.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Citrus fruits boosts your immune system so that you can ward off infections and improves your overall health. Eat fruits with the skin on to get more fiber. Fiber keeps your digestive tract moving and healthy.  Frozen, canned, or dried fruit may also be good options, just check the label and avoid the ones with added sugars.

This is a good source of calcium and vitamin D, which is essential for building strong bones and teeth especially as we age. Low-fat or fat-free dairy are preferred. You may also try fortified dairy alternative, which has added calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Other plant-based milks such as almond milk, rice, coconut milk, oatmilk and hemp milk may contain calcium but are lacking in other vitamins and minerals that you can get from dairy.

Foods made from wheat, rye, oats, barley, rice, cornmeal, or other cereal grains contain carbohydrates, which are the body’s main source of energy. Whole grains help to lower cholesterol, boost your energy, help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, and reduce the risk of heart-related illnesses.

Oils are high in calories, however they’re a good source of Vitamin E. Healthy fats can be found in fatty fish such as Salmon, mackerel, and tuna. You may also get it from supplements like Omega-3 fish oil. Healthy fats lower cholesterol and improves heart health.
